James Walden, 92, of Elizabethtown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, at Baptist Health Hardin.

He was a native of Harlan County, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a 46-year member of Gilead Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and deacon for many years.

He retired from Signal Delivery and later Hardin County Schools. He drove the bus for Hardin County Special Olympics and the Central Hardin boys’ basketball team. Jim loved taking care of his yard and garden.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Vivian Walden; a grandson, Robby Ash; and two sisters, Mildred Turner and Judy Givans.

He is survived by two daughters, Elannette (Don­nie) Baker and Stephanie (David) Mackey, all of Elizabethtown; one sister, Virginia Arnold of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Clarissa Mackey, Sawyer Mackey and Alexandra Mackey; two stepgrandchildren, Kali (Allyssa) Buchanan and Brandt-Evan (Kara) Baker; two stepgreat-grandsons, Kohen Buchanan and Theoden Ray Baker; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Gilead Baptist Church with Pastor Rio Taylor, Pastor Connor Anderson and Bro. Dan Durham officiating. Burial follows in Glendale Christian Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and continues from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Gilead Baptist Church.
