Sergeant Harold Raymond Cross Jr was born on September 7, 1928 in Wayne County, Michigan. He had enlisted in the United States Army and was a Light Weapons Assault Crewman attached to 1st Platoon, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. He was seriously wounded while fighting the enemy on “Christmas Hill”, near DT 019-405, North Korea on July 27, 1953 by enemy mortar fragments and died of those wounds later that day just prior to the Truce. Last Man Killed from the Army in the Korean War.
